Tests of Russian biochip for detecting coronavirus will begin in 2023-2024
Rospotrebnadzor has begun creating a biochip to determine coronavirus infection. The research is being conducted by the Nizhny Novgorod Institute of Epidemiology and Microbiology named after Academician Blokhina.
The biochip will detect the causative agents of community-acquired pneumonia, including COVID-19, using the principle of an express test. Development tests will begin in 2023-2024, RIA Novosti reports.
According to representatives of the Nizhny Novgorod Institute of Epidemiology and Microbiology named after Academician Blokhina of Rospotrebnadzor, the biochip will be a small 25×75 mm plate. Artificially synthesized short oligonucleotide probes that determine the DNA of the causative agents of community-acquired pneumonia will be placed on it. It is noted that the biochip will not be implanted into the human body.
During the tests, I will take samples of biomaterials from patients; in the laboratory, using a biochip, they are examined for the presence of the virus. They will be able to detect it in sputum, blood or saliva, the Rospotrebnadzor said.
As the website kp.ru wrote, earlier the department announced work on the creation of a prototype of a biochip, which will be able to identify the causative agents of community-acquired pneumonia, including coronavirus.
