Russian Kh-22 supersonic cruise missiles are still a big problem for our air defense. Actually, while the Armed Forces will not be able to shoot down such targets, however, a certain type of anti-aircraft missile systems can radically change the situation.

In an interview with Channel 24, Yuriy Ignat, speaker of the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, told when Ukraine will be able to shoot down Russian Kh-22 missiles. From his words, it is clear that everything depends on the military assistance provided by our partners.

What kind of air defense systems do Ukraine need

As the speaker noted, the Ukrainian army is waiting for the transfer of Patriot and FSAF SAMP / T anti-aircraft missile systems. Specifically, they can intercept Russian X-22s.

Ukraine needs systems practically capable of shooting down Kh-22 and other high-speed missiles. We are talking about the Patriot and FSAF SAMP / T air defense systems, which, we hope, will arrive soon. But their range of hitting ballistic targets is only about 40 kilometers,” Ignat said.

It is important to say that air defense systems consist of a command post, at a certain distance from which the radar is located. Even at a certain distance from this radar, for example, 4 launchers, as well as supply vehicles, can stand. If you arrange these systems in a semicircle, you can protect a site with a radius of 120 kilometers.

Note! Patriot and FSAF SAMP / T systems can shoot down air targets within a radius of up to 150 kilometers, but if we are talking about cruise missiles, aircraft, helicopters and UAVs. In this case, the installations can be placed a little further apart, but then you need the radar to be in touch with them.

We add that the complexes may well work in a single information field – to exchange information in real time. It works like this: if the target did not eliminate NASAMS, then Iris-T will do it, or further – Patriot.

How else can Ukrainian air defense not shoot down missiles
