On May 23, the founder of the Telegram channel NEXTA, Roman Protasevich, was detained in Minsk by Belarusian law enforcement agencies after an emergency landing of the liner of the Irish airline Ryanai. This plane followed from Athens to Vilnius. It was also reported about the detention of his girlfriend, Russian woman Sofia Sapega. It is planned that on May 28, a court in Belarus will consider the case of the detained Russian woman.

In Belarus, Protasevich is accused of several articles, including organizing mass riots. Telegram channel NEXTA has been declared extremist by the Belarusian authorities.
