The author and creator of the NEXTA Telegram channel recognized as extremist in Belarus, Stepan Putilo, addressed the international community. He asked to provide security for himself and other employees of the channel, RIA Novosti reports.

“Threats come to us, even though we are abroad, so we ask for peace, we ask Poland, we ask other countries for additional assistance, for additional protection,” Putilo said during a press conference.

Natalya, the mother of NEXTA founder Roman Protasevich, who was detained in Belarus, speaking at a press conference, stressed that “her son did not call for mass riots in Belarus. According to her, Roman only reported information about what was happening in the country.

On May 23, the founder of the Telegram channel NEXTA, Roman Protasevich, was detained in Minsk by Belarusian law enforcement agencies after an emergency landing of the liner of the Irish airline Ryanai. This plane followed from Athens to Vilnius. It was also reported about the detention of his girlfriend, Russian woman Sofia Sapega. It is planned that on May 28, a court in Belarus will consider the case of the detained Russian woman.

In Belarus, Protasevich is accused of several articles, including organizing mass riots. Telegram channel NEXTA has been declared extremist by the Belarusian authorities.
