The death toll of the riots in Washington, Americans has reached five people. Capitol police have confirmed the death of an officer who was injured while on duty. This was reported on the official website of the department.
US Capitol Police Officer Brian Sicknick died at approximately 9:30 pm on January 7 (05:30 am on January 8th Moscow time). A law enforcement officer was injured while breaking up the riots in a physical collision with protesters. In the department, he lost consciousness, after which he was taken to a local hospital.
The officer joined the Capitol Police in July 2008 and most recently worked in the rapid response department.
Initially, CNN learned about the death of a policeman, but later law enforcement officers denied this information. The police officer became the fifth person to die as a result of protests in the American capital.
Among the dead was Ashley Babitt, a veteran of the United States Air Force, who was shot in the chest in the Capitol Building and died in hospital. Her husband revealed that she served in the US Air Force for 14 years and was a senior security officer. Another victim of the protests is the creator of the Trumparoo website, which supports President Donald Trump. Benjamin Phillips, 50, arrived at the rally from Pennsylvania and transported several dozen Trump supporters to the American capital.
On January 6, Republican protesters stormed the Capitol Building and surrounded the Senate Hall. The Senate and the House of Representatives interrupted a meeting at which it was planned to approve the results of the last elections. According to this data, Democrat Joe Biden won the presidential elections. During the protests, police detained nearly 70 rioters.
