The doctor spoke about the danger of simultaneous infection with influenza and coronavirus
Simultaneous infection with influenza and coronavirus is very dangerous, as it becomes more difficult for a person's immunity to cope with two diseases. Ravi Tomar, a doctor at a medical center in Portland, told the British newspaper Daily Express about this.
According to him, the probability of contracting two viruses at once always exists. The most at risk are people over 65, pregnant women, and those who suffer from diabetes, asthma and heart disease. The expert stressed that in the case of a double infection, the treatment takes much longer. The risk of death also increases.
Earlier, academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences, virologist Vitaly Zverev said that among the deaths from coronavirus there could be cases complicated by influenza. According to him, the influenza virus is superimposed on the coronavirus, but with a confirmed diagnosis of COVID-19, doctors do not examine the patient for influenza. However, he expressed confidence that this year there will be fewer cases of influenza infection than usual.
