The Dutch authorities fined Tiktok € 750 thousand

The Dutch Personal Data Protection Authority (DPA) fined TikTok € 750,000 for violating the privacy of children using the app.

The reason for the punishment was the fact that TikTok invites Dutch users to familiarize themselves with the service's privacy policy, written in English. And children are not required to speak a foreign language. “By not providing a privacy statement in Dutch, TikTok was unable to provide an adequate explanation of how the app collects, processes and uses personal data. This is a violation of data privacy legislation, which is based on the principle that people should always be given a clear idea of what is being done with their personal data, ”the regulator said in a statement.

TikTok has already “filed an objection” to the fine, citing the DPA's approval of a “shorter, easier-to-understand” version of the privacy policy statement in Dutch for children in July 2020.
