The EU has announced the start of the third wave of the COVID-19 pandemic. This was stated by the representative of the European Commission (EC) Dana Spinant, quoted by RIA Novosti.
“We see the third wave, which comes gradually or even quickly in various EU countries,” she admitted. The representative of the EC noted that the rate of spread of the coronavirus differs in different countries. However, she urged to speed up the vaccination process.
Earlier in Europe, they announced a shortage of vaccines to prevent the third wave of the COVID-19 pandemic. German Health Minister Jens Spahn said that it is too early to weaken antiviral measures and, perhaps, they will have to be strengthened on the contrary due to the increase in morbidity. Even if the EU vaccine supply stabilizes, it will take at least a few weeks to vaccinate all risk groups.
According to the latest data, there are more than 121 million people infected with coronavirus in the world, 2.7 million people have died.
