US military analyst Sebastian Roblin compared the protection systems of the Chinese Type 99 tank, the Russian T-90 and the American M1A2 Abrams.

The expert noted that the Chinese tank looks good against the background of competitors. All three combat vehicles are equipped with composite armor and reactive armor. The specialist explains that the tanks contain blocks of explosives that detonate incoming projectiles, preventing them from penetrating the armor. The Chinese vehicle uses a multilayer system similar to the Russian reactive armor “Relikt”.

As for the American Abrams, although it has more durable armor, it does not have equipment that could warn about laser irradiation. But the Chinese car has such a system. This, as the expert notes, increases the level of his survivability in battle.
