The family of the teenager who died in the accident filed a lawsuit against Tesla

The family of a 15-year-old US teenager who died in a Tesla Model 3 accident is suing the electric car giant, according to the New York Times.

It is reported that in the summer of 2019, Giovani Maldonado was driving with his father in the passenger seat of a Ford Explorer pickup when, unexpectedly, a Tesla car, traveling on autopilot at a speed of about 70 km / h, crashed into a Ford, rearing it. The teenager was not wearing a seat belt, and he was thrown out of the car – later the young man was found nearby in a pool of blood.

“[So] we live day after day – there is so much sadness inside .. We walk with our family and try to do something together, for example, go to church. We all have a huge hole inside,” said the father of the deceased teenager.

Neither the Tesla driver nor the autopilot slowed down when approaching another vehicle, police said.

Almost two years later, this accident became the subject of legal proceedings. The lawsuit, filed by Benjamin Maldonado and his wife Adriana Garcia, alleges that the autopilot was defective, and the Tesla driver and his wife, who were sitting in the passenger seat, are mentioned as defendants. Maldonado's lawsuit is one of several that have been filed against Tesla just this year, the newspaper notes.

Over the past five years, at least ten people have died in accidents involving Tesla vehicles, according to the US Highway Traffic Safety Agency.

Previously, the newest – the fastest – Tesla model caught fire with a driver inside and did not want to release him.
