The liberation of Melitopol and the withdrawal of the Armed Forces of Ukraine to the coast will lead to the collapse of the Putin regime, – Piontkovsky

Western partners will provide Ukraine with a large amount of military equipment, including Abrams and Leopard tanks. New weapons can radically change the rules of the game on the battlefield.

Such an opinion Channel 24 was expressed by Russian oppositionist and publicist from the United States Andrey Piontkovsky. He recalled that the head of Ukrainian intelligence, Kirill Budanov, said in December 2022 that Ukraine would return Crimea in a combined way – both by force and diplomacy.

According to the Russian oppositionist, now Ukraine is approaching the first stage of this process – the military one. Piontkovsky noted that the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Valery Zaluzhny in an interview with The Economist outlined the scenario for a large-scale military operation of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. >In particular, General Zaluzhny said that he was ready to launch an attack on Melitopol, and this would destroy the Russian defense system. However, for this, the Armed Forces of Ukraine need 300 tanks, 600-700 infantry fighting vehicles, 500 howitzers.

“Now Zaluzhny has all this and even more. So far, not physically on the battlefield, but politically. The transfer of weapons to Ukraine will take about 2 months,” Piontkovsky said.

He added that in 2 months the Armed Forces of Ukraine there will be 2-3 mechanized brigades. According to the publicist, not even tanks, but armored vehicles, including American Bradley infantry fighting vehicles, will play the main role in the Ukrainian offensive.

First there will be a serious military success. When the Armed Forces of Ukraine take Melitopol, the political system of Russia will simply collapse. The capture of Melitopol and the withdrawal of the Armed Forces of Ukraine to the coast will lead to the political collapse of the regime of Vladimir Putin, – Piontkovsky emphasized.

The oppositionist added that Putin's group simply will not survive such a defeat as the loss of Melitopol.

Conflicts in Russia's political leadership

After all, a serious conflict is already flaring up in Russia's political leadership.

“In Russia, there is an open war between the generals and the Ministry of Defense and the Wagner PMC,” Piontkovsky said.

He noted that at first the owner of the Wagner PMC, Yevgeny Prigozhin, managed to promote his candidacy – Sergei Surovikin. However, on January 11, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu fired Surovikin, appointing Valery Gerasimov, Chief of the Russian General Staff, instead.Probably, on the night of January 10-11, a military mini-coup took place in Moscow, when Gerasimov and Shoigu forced Putin to remove Surovikin,” Piontkovsky noted.

He added that all these processes play in the interests of Ukraine. After all, Russian war criminals are more busy fighting each other than invading Ukraine.

Russia is preparing for a war to redistribute property

According to the publicist, most of Putin's henchmen already understand that the war is lost for them. In particular, this is evidenced by the fact that private military companies are being actively created in Russia.

To date, 27 such PMCs have already been created. They are preparing for that huge war for the redistribution of property that will begin in Russia after the defeat in the war against Ukraine,” Piontkovsky said.

He noted that such political events in Russia will become a kind of “diplomatic route” for the return of Crimea, Budanov spoke about.
