From March 1, 2022, the list of programs for mandatory pre-installation on smartphones and tablets and other electronics may be expanded. Manufacturers may be required to install four domestic applications.
It is a program for reading and listening to books, an online store, a service for music and radio, and a platform for conferencing.
Especially for this, the Ministry of Finance has already prepared amendments to the current government decree. The names of the applications are not spelled out in the documents, apparently the products will be selected based on the annual popularity rating that is drawn up by the department.
The first amendments regarding this issue were made in 2019. From April 1, 2021, retail stores are required to sell equipment with domestic software already installed on it. For example, for smartphones there are 15 applications, including a navigator, a messenger, a voice assistant.
Tablets, PCs and smart TVs must provide the user with access to three Russian programs.
The voice assistant “Marusya”, ICQ, “Gosuslugi” must be installed, and another half dozen Russian services must be installed on all phones that will be sold in Russia. Foreign applications can also be installed, but this is at the request of the manufacturer.
The press service of the Ministry of Digital Science confirmed to Izvestia that the issue of expanding the list of software is being discussed. This is done in accordance with the decision of the protocol of the government commission on digital development.
Researchers have previously stated that 60% of the most popular Android apps contain at least one vulnerability. Gaps in the security system can lead to leakage of user data, reports the TV channel “360”.
