Spiegel reported that Germany accepted the transfer of Leopard 2 tanks to Ukraine. This decision of the German government is a merit of all Ukrainian society.
In general, it is quite predictable, and its adoption was expected during the Ramstein-8 meeting on January 20. However, the Germans delayed this issue. Oleksandr Musiyenko, head of the Center for Military Legal Studies, told Channel 24 about this.
Merit to all Ukrainians
Musienko noted that this is an answer to all skeptics who said that Ukraine would not receive German Leopard 2 tanks. The next stage, in addition to strengthening the land component, is the aviation component. Now our state is doing serious work on this issue.
This is a great merit of the Ukrainian authorities, the military, citizens of Ukraine who went to rallies – the whole society, – the military observer emphasized.< /p>
Thus, Ukraine put pressure on Germany on the tank issue, as well as on our Western partners, to convince Berlin to take this absolutely correct and fair decision.

The level of tank modification is not critical
German Leopard tanks have degree of modification. First of all, the Leopard 1 is older, but even they are equipped with night vision devices and can fight at different times of the day.
As for the modifications, obviously, we are unlikely to be able to assemble the most modern degree of modification of the Leopard 2 in the amount of 300 – 400 units. So, not all countries will want to give away such new tanks.
However, the level of modification and modernization of the letter A (2A4, 2A5, 2A6 and 2A7 – Channel 24) does not directly affect driving performance of tanks, that is, it is not of decisive importance, – a military observer noted.
So, this modernization was adapted to protect against various types of anti-tank weapons. However, it is not decisive.
