At the end of September it became known that Roskosmos was developing a new mobile space rocket complex with the Irkut ultralight rocket, and now the Russian Ministry of Defense has shown how it will look.
The appearance and technical characteristics of the new Russian ultralight launch vehicle “Irkut”, which is being created within the framework of this project by the specialists of the Central Scientific Research Institute of Mechanical Engineering (JSC “TsNIIMash”), are disclosed in the latest issue of the scientific journal “Space Engineering and Technology” of the Rocket and Space Corporation “Energy”.
The article says that the rocket is planned to be launched from the Plesetsk cosmodrome from 2024. It is assumed that the space carrier will exist in two versions – one-time and reusable (with the possibility of returning on the wings).
The mass of a single-use version of the rocket, which will be able to be 23.6 tons, in a reusable version – 25 tons. According to the developers' idea, the first version of Irkut will be able to put 584 kilograms of cargo into low-earth orbit (200 kilometers), and 84 kilograms into geostationary orbit, the second – 398 kilograms and 60 kilograms, respectively.
