The passenger of the plane replaced the pilot, who became ill
The pilot was among the passengers on board.
The pilot of the American airline Southwest Airlines needed emergency medical care during the flight – he was replaced by a passenger on the flight, who was a pilot of another airline.
It is reported by CNN.
The incident occurred on a flight from Las Vegas to Columbus, Ohio. A passenger intervened to help the flight crew after one of the regular pilots needed a medical emergency.
“A licensed pilot from another airline who was on board entered the cockpit and assisted with radio communications while another of our pilots flew the aircraft. We greatly appreciate their support and assistance,” said Chris Perry, spokesman for the airline.
After a safe return to Las Vegas, the reserve team boarded and the aircraft proceeded on its route as planned. The Federal Aviation Administration will conduct an investigation into the incident.
Recall that the Indian airline SpiceJet suspended the flight of two of its pilots after they arranged a snack in the cockpit.
