The head of the Ukrainian analytical center “Third Sector”, political scientist Andriy Zolotarev called the past negotiations between Russia and NATO fruitless for Ukraine. His words are quoted by TASS.

According to Zolotarev, Ukraine has not received any guarantees of joining the alliance. “Promises that someday Ukraine will live in NATO is akin to the expression “either the shah will die, or the donkey will die,” the political scientist said. He noted that the issue of a peaceful settlement of the situation in Donbass has reached a dead end, and NATO's clear position is to play for time. “This is contrary to the position of Russia, which has stated that it does not intend to raise this issue,” he added.

Earlier, Germany supported Russia's right to oppose Ukraine's accession to NATO. According to the German deputy from the party “Alternative for Germany” Steffen Kotre, after the Cold War, Russia “was pincered” because NATO, contrary to the agreements, expanded to the east and approached the Russian borders. “Russia rightly has a sickening feeling, Russia has the right to insist that Ukraine now does not fall into NATO,” he said.
