Finland and Sweden intend to join NATO as soon as possible. At the same time, the procedure may take only “a few weeks”.

NATO member states are ready to ratify membership applications from Finland and Sweden as soon as possible. It is precisely according to the words of the Canadian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Melanie Jolie that it is possible to carry out the procedure for new NATO members “within a few weeks.”

In particular, German Foreign Minister Annalena Burbock also announced the relevant intentions – the country has prepared everything for this to process quickly.

“We need to make sure we give them security guarantees. There should be no transitional period where their status is unclear,” Annalena Burbock said.

Note! The corresponding statement refers to the period between application for membership and ratification, during which Finland and Sweden will not yet be protected by Article 5 of NATO.
