In Transcarpathia, the rector of one of the temples of the UOC-MP is suspected of inciting religious hatred. According to the investigation, he publicly insulted the religious feelings of Ukrainians more than once.

The SBU notes that they have already collected evidence against a suspect involved in inciting religious hatred. It turned out to be the rector of the Exaltation of the Cross Cathedral in Uzhgorod.

Last December, he repeatedly publicly insulted the religious feelings of Ukrainians who decided to celebrate Christmas on December 25th. Law enforcement officers have documented more than 7 episodes, where the priest humiliates the religious feelings of citizens of other faiths and tries to create hostility towards them.

Forensic-linguistic examination confirmed the criminal actions of the suspect. Based on all the evidence that we managed to collect, the person involved in the case was informed of suspicion of inciting religious hatred.

So far, they are deciding what preventive measures to choose. At the same time, the investigation is still ongoing.

We note that in its activities the SBU observes the principle of impartiality to the activities of any religious denomination and respects the right of every citizen to freedom of opinion and religion, as defined by the Constitution of Ukraine, the SBU stressed.

The head of the Rovenky diocese of the UOC-MP was searched

• At the end of May 2022, the Rovenky diocese in the Luhansk region decided to remain under the omophorion of the Moscow Patriarch Kirill. Subsequently, its archbishop Arkady Taranov fled to Russia.
• Recently, law enforcement officers conducted a search at the place of registration of the fugitive, namely in Odessa. The searches took place in the case of collaboration activities.
• During the inspection, we found a lot of interesting things. We are talking about anti-Ukrainian literature, which had signs of inciting religious hatred.
