Russia called on the United States to abandon the concept of “great power rivalry” and “peace based on strength.” This is stated in the speech of Vladimir Ermakov, Director of the Department for Nonproliferation and Arms Control of the Russian Foreign Ministry, at the First Committee of the UN General Assembly, to which TASS refers.

“Unlike the United States, the Russian Federation is aware of its responsibility for international security, global and regional stability,” First Deputy Permanent Representative of Russia Dmitry Polyansky read out his speech. The diplomat also noted that Russia is following a consistent course to preserve peace.

According to Ermakov, Moscow is acting in the interests of maintaining security and stability in the world, as well as strengthening arms control.

Earlier it was reported that the United States and Russia have made progress in negotiations on the extension of the Treaty on Measures to Further Reduce and Limit Strategic Offensive Arms (START-3). It was noted that the American side saw some positive development of the situation.
