Russian troops left the Chernobyl nuclear power plant on March 31st. It became known that they took with them the Ukrainian National Guardsmen, who defended the station at the beginning of a full-scale invasion.
The Russians kept them captive since February 24 and took them with them, retreating to the territory of Belarus. This was announced at a briefing by the mayor of Slavutych, Yuriy Fomichev.
What is known about the fate of the National Guards
The invaders put Ukrainian soldiers in a car and took them out.
Our guys were taken from the Chernobyl nuclear power plant, our National Guardsmen, who from the first day were captured at the nuclear power plant, who guarded it. They were taken away, they were taken into cars and taken away,” he said.
Fomichev noted that this was an intended action. Perhaps the border guards can be returned during the big exchange between Ukraine and Russia.
He asked his family and friends to be patient and remain calm.
Trust me, everything is being done to ensure that our guys return in the near future,” Fomichev added.
