Russia and the United States have not set a timeframe for negotiations on complex issues, US Deputy Secretary of State Wendy Sherman said following talks between representatives of the two countries on security guarantees. Her words are quoted by RIA Novosti.
She noted that the United States is aware that discussion of such topics can take a significant amount of time.
“Negotiations on complex issues, such as arms control, cannot be completed in a matter of days or even weeks,” Sherman said, noting that the discussion in Geneva was only an initial stage and will require continuation.
“We haven't set a specific timetable for anything, but the Russians said they wanted to move quickly. We used to say that if there are actions that we can take, work that can be done, we are happy to move as quickly as possible, ”the diplomat said.
On January 10, in Geneva, negotiations were held on guarantees of security and strategic stability between the delegations of Russia and the United States. In total, the discussion between the officials of the two countries lasted about 7.5 hours. The talks were held behind closed doors, without journalists, at the US Permanent Mission to the UN Office in Geneva.
