The Holy Synod of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine decided to create a new religious organization within the OCU on the territory of the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra.

It is noted that the decision was made taking into account the special significance of the Holy Dormition Kiev-Pechersk Lavra, as a shrine of all-Ukrainian and world significance, in order to overcome the consequences of the non-canonical subordination of this monastery to the authorities of the Moscow Patriarchate.

The press service also added that after the suggestion of Metropolitan Epiphanius, the synod decided to form the monastery “Holy Dormition Kiev-Pechersk Lavra” as part of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church.

The synod also approved the charter of the new organization and determined that it reports directly to the Primate of the OCU as its rector.

The Synod also asked the Primate to apply to the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine with a request to transfer one of the churches Upper Lavra and its individual premises for use for worship and monastic activities of the Holy Dormition Kiev-Pechersk UOC (OCU), the OCU noted.

Zara, a historical and cultural reserve operates in part of the Lavra, and the monastery complex was leased to the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (Moscow Patriarchate).

The activities of the Moscow Patriarchate during the war

More and more Ukrainians have a negative attitude towards the Russian churches in Ukraine. For example, in Stryi, Lviv region, unidentified persons poured green paint on a priest during a divine service.

On May 4, the activities of the Moscow Patriarchate were banned in Konotop, Sumy region. The Konotop City Council said that there is no difference between the enemy and his agent. But there is no all-Ukrainian ban yet. A similar decision was also made in Borislav in the Lvov region.

On March 14, Patriarch Kirill, after the liturgy on the feast of the Triumph of Orthodoxy in Moscow, blessed the Russian army for the war against Ukraine. He also presented the commander of the National Guard, Viktor Zolotov, with an icon.

After such frankly unchristian behavior in Ukraine, churches began to emerge from the Moscow Patriarchy. Also, a part of the Moscow Patriarchate supported the idea of condemning Patriarch Kirill, who blessed the genocide of Ukrainians.
