White House press secretary Jen Psaki at a press briefing allowed the crisis in Ukraine to be resolved. Washington believes that for this it is necessary to comply with one condition – to ensure the removal of tension, reports TASS.

Psaki said the US has expressed serious concern about the buildup of Russian forces near the border with Ukraine. Washington continues to monitor military activity near the Ukrainian border. A White House spokeswoman added that de-escalation is needed to make progress in the situation in Ukraine.

“And we emphasize that real progress can only be in conditions of de-escalation and diplomacy is the best way forward,” said Psaki.

Earlier, US Permanent Representative to NATO Julianne Smith called the condition for discussing Ukraine with Russia. This is possible only with the participation of Ukraine in the negotiations, she stressed.

Negotiations on guarantees of security and strategic stability between Russia and the United States took place on January 10 in Geneva. They lasted about 7.5 hours. The meeting was held behind closed doors at the US Permanent Mission to the UN Office in Geneva and without the participation of journalists.
