A high-ranking representative of the American administration, speaking at a special telephone briefing for journalists about the situation with Ukraine, announced the impossibility of launching the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline. TASS writes about it.
According to a US official, the project will not be launched, the $11 billion spent on it was wasted. “During the night we held consultations with Germany. As a result, the Russian Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline will not operate. This is $11 billion wasted on a Russian-controlled gas pipeline,” he said.
Earlier, US President Joe Biden said that the country's administration, together with the German authorities, is developing measures necessary to ensure that the Russian Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline is not launched. The American president added that Western countries are united in their readiness to respond to Russia on its actions against Ukraine.
Since the fall of 2021, Kiev and the West have been accusing Russia of pulling the army to the borders of Ukraine and preparing a military offensive. Moscow has repeatedly denied the existence of such plans. As Russian leader Vladimir Putin clarified, NATO's statements about the impending “invasion” are alarmist.
