Legislators directed the defense budget to the total the amount of $ 770 billion to President Biden, who is to sign it. The document was adopted by 89 votes, 10 senators voted against.
The Senate agreed on the amount of military spending $ 25 billion more than President Biden requested. Also, the defense budget is 5% higher than last year.
This document provides for the allocation of $ 300 million for military assistance to Ukraine – $ 50 million more than President Biden proposed. Of this amount, $ 75 million will be allocated for the purchase of lethal weapons.
It also provides $ 4 billion for the European Defense Initiative and $ 150 million for security cooperation in the Baltic states.
