The US State Department said that the United States has no desire to impose large-scale sanctions against Russia because of the crisis in Ukraine, but is ready to do so if the dialogue fails. This was stated on CNN by the official representative of the State Department Ned Price, RIA Novosti reports.

According to him, we are talking about unprecedented economic sanctions, financial measures that affect export control, which “were deliberately rejected in 2014” because of the consequences that would have befallen the Russian economy and the Russian Federation.

“This is not what we want, but we, together with our allies, partners, have invested a lot in this response to ensure our readiness,” the State Department spokesman said.

Earlier, US President Joe Biden confirmed the possible imposition of sanctions against Russian leader Vladimir Putin in the event of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. The American president also stressed that the escalation around Ukraine could change the world, but to talk about the likelihood of escalation is “like guessing on tea leaves.”
