The US has put the military on high alert at home and abroad. This was announced by Pentagon spokesman John Kirby, reports TASS.

According to him, 8,5 thousand servicemen are preparing to be sent to Europe to strengthen NATO amid tensions around Ukraine. At the same time, he clarified, the decision on the transfer of troops has not yet been made.

On January 20, it became known that US President Joe Biden does not plan to send American troops to Ukraine even in the event of an invasion of Russian forces on its territory. According to the Associated Press, the reason for Biden’s refusal to directly participate in the Russian-Ukrainian war is that Washington has no contractual obligations to Kiev. “A war with Russia would be a huge gamble, given the potential for its spread to the whole of Europe, destabilization of the region and escalation to a frightening degree of risk of an exchange of nuclear strikes,” the agency notes.

On January 18, State Duma Speaker Vyacheslav Volodin said that NATO is seeking to occupy Ukraine and is conducting information preparations for the advance of forces into Ukrainian territory. “Their advisers are already there, instructors are there, and now they are thinking how to justify the deployment of troops. In other words, NATO seeks to occupy Ukraine,” Volodin said.
