US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken and EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell during a telephone conversation discussed the situation around Ukraine ahead of talks with Russia on security. This was announced by the head of the press service of the State Department, Ned Price, reports TASS.
Blinken promised the head of European diplomacy to give a tough response to the “Russian aggression” in Ukraine. He stressed the importance of coordinating actions in support of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of this state.
The Secretary of State and Borrell stressed that any discussions on European security will be held in coordination with the European Union and its participation. The parties also discussed cooperation between the European Union and the United States and the conflict between Lithuania and China.
Earlier, the European Union demanded a place at the table of upcoming talks between Russia and the United States and NATO on security guarantees. Thus, the EU representatives were dissatisfied with the format of the negotiations, which does not imply the participation of the European Union in the process of discussing the future interaction with NATO and the priorities of the defense policy.
