White House spokeswoman Jen Psaki said the United States refuses to listen to the advice of former President Donald Trump, who “praises” Russian leader Vladimir Putin. Her words are quoted by TASS.
“We try not to take advice from anyone who praises Putin and his military strategy,” the US administration spokeswoman said.
Psaki also answered the question whether Trump's statements could affect the position of Republicans in Congress regarding the situation in Ukraine. She pointed out that evaluation decisions should be left to members of the Republican Party.
Earlier, Trump said that if he had held the highest post instead of Joe Biden, Russia would not have agreed to recognize the Donetsk and Luhansk People's Republics (DPR and LPR) as independent states. Trump also saw no reason for the current development of the situation around Ukraine. He noted that “there was no reason for the escalation of tension.”
Over the past few months, Kiev and Western countries have been accusing Russia of pulling troops to the borders of Ukraine and preparing a military offensive. Moscow has repeatedly denied the existence of such aggressive plans. According to Russian President Vladimir Putin, NATO's statements about the impending “invasion” are alarmist.
