The Biden administration is again sending illegal immigrants to Central America under an accelerated procedure in connection with the increased frequency of illegal border crossings and an increase in the number of coronavirus infections in Texas.

Migrants at the US-Mexico border

The US government has resumed the practice of expedited deportation of illegally staying migrants from Central America to their homeland. This was announced on Friday, July 30, by the United States Department of Homeland Security.

According to The Washington Post, on July 30, two deportation flights were made from Texas: the first plane flew to Guatemala, and the second to Honduras, with an intermediate stop in El Salvador. A total of 73 people were expelled from the United States that day. These are mainly non-family adults who test negative for coronavirus, the publication specifies.

At the same time, the American authorities used the procedure for electronic determination of the country of origin of migrants based on their biometric data. This procedure is necessary for the deportation of migrants crossing the US border without documents.

The spread of the “delta” variant of the coronavirus in Texas

Initially, it was planned to carry out the deportation of 147 people – adults and children – but the expulsion of a number of illegal immigrants was postponed due to a positive test for COVID-19 from them or due to the fact that in recent days they had contact with infected people.

This action is the first expulsion from the United States of illegal migrants under the accelerated procedure, undertaken since the inauguration of Joseph Biden as president of the country. At first, his administration suspended this practice, but reconsidered its decision due to the increase in the number of illegal immigrants trying to move to Texas, and the outbreak of infections with the “delta” variant of the coronavirus in this state, The Washington Post notes.
