The United States spoke about plans to withdraw troops from Afghanistan and Iraq

The United States spoke about its plans to withdraw troops from Afghanistan and Iraq. Reported by Al Jazeera.

Acting US Secretary of Defense Christopher Miller said that by January 15, it will reduce to 2,500 people in both countries. It is noted that such an order was signed by President Donald Trump as part of the regrouping of forces. Miller also highlighted Trump's desire to bring operations in Afghanistan and Iraq to a successful and responsible conclusion.

Trump's desire to reduce the number of troops in Afghanistan and Iraq was reported earlier. According to a number of media outlets, the personnel reshuffle in the Pentagon recently arranged by the head of state is connected with these plans. In particular, it became known earlier that the dismissed head of the military department Mark Esper finally spoke out against the complete withdrawal of troops from Afghanistan in a secret letter to the president.

In July, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo announced that the US plans to completely withdraw its troops from Afghanistan by May 2021. He stressed that the American army has cut its military presence in the country by half.
