The United States intends to appeal to the UN Security Council in the event of Russian aggression and the aggravation of the situation in Ukraine through the fault of Russia. It is reported by Foreign Policy.

The publication notes that the United States can do little in the UN Security Council against Russia, which has veto power there, to force it to abandon its allegedly planned invasion of Ukraine. However, American leader Joe Biden hopes to attract the attention of the world community to the problem at the expense of the authority of the organization, having entered into a confrontation.

The US President intends to “demonstrate the diplomatic isolation of Russia and, if possible, drive a wedge between Russia and its most powerful ally, China,” which stands for the sovereignty and inviolability of the territorial integrity of the states of the world.

The publication reports, citing a senior US official, that the United States has already informed its allies in Europe and the UN Security Council and prepared for a public confrontation.

The United States stressed that potential Russian interference in the affairs of Ukraine strikes “at the heart of the UN charter”, so Washington intends to draw attention to the crisis and demonstrate Russia's isolation on the world stage.

Earlier, White House press secretary Jen Psaki revealed the possible timing of the so-called Russian invasion of Ukraine. A representative of the US presidential administration, without providing evidence, indicated that this could begin in mid-January-February.
