The United States and NATO did not comment on RIA Novosti publication of responses to Russia’s proposals

The United States and NATO declined to comment on the responses published in the newspaper El País to Russian proposals on security guarantees in Europe. This is reported by RIA Novosti.

The agency wrote that Politico had contacted the US State Department for comments. However, the Foreign Ministry refused to say anything about this. In addition, RIA Novosti turned to sources in NATO, but the alliance said that Brussels “does not comment on leaks.”

Earlier, both the Kremlin and the Russian Foreign Ministry also refused to speak publicly about the responses of NATO and the United States to Russia’s proposals published in the media. The representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Maria Zakharova recommended to apply for confirmation of the authenticity of the publication to the United States. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that Russia was not involved in the publication of the documents.

At the same time, a source in diplomatic circles told RIA Novosti that the text of the responses of the United States and NATO to the proposals on security guarantees is genuine.
