A positive temperature anomaly is expected in northern Siberia and western Yakutia until the end of January. The scientific director of the Hydrometeorological Center Roman Vilfand warned the Russians about this in a conversation with RIA Novosti.
He specified that the average temperatures in these regions are about minus 50 degrees Celsius. However, due to the movement of air masses from the Greenland and Norwegian Seas, the temperature will be 20 degrees above normal. In particular, in Tuva, the thermometer columns will drop only to minus 25, in Mirny – to minus 32 degrees Celsius.
The forecaster added that in winter air masses from the Atlantic began to happen more often. According to him, such a phenomenon violates the established ideas about the continental climate in the Asian part of Russia.
Earlier, the Hydrometeorological Center said that snowfall and blizzards are expected by the end of the week in Moscow and the Moscow region. After that, the snow cover in the capital will grow to almost half a meter. Precipitation will begin in the evening on January 20, and on January 21, wind gusts of up to 15 meters per second will be added.
