There will be an asymmetric strike: the forecast of the Colonel of the Armed Forces of Ukraine for Bakhmut and Soledar
In recent days, the Russian occupiers have advanced in the direction of Soledar and are doing better than usual. Because of the frost, the invaders were able to use armored vehicles and move on.
This was told to Channel 24 by a military expert, instructor pilot and colonel of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the reserve Roman Svitan. According to him, earlier the weather did not allow the use of armored vehicles, but now the Russians were able to bring them into the “fields”.
Why does it escalate
According to the military expert, earlier Russia used mainly manpower to attack the positions of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the Donetsk region. This tactic did not have much success.

After the frosts came, it became possible to use armored vehicles, which led to the advance of the Russians.
Now they have withdrawn armored vehicles and it is this kind of movement of Russian troops that has allowed them to perform certain maneuvers. Svitan noted.
The Colonel of the Armed Forces of Ukraine said that, despite a slight success, the Ukrainian defenders have already found a way to destroy the enemy’s equipment, and therefore stabilization is expected in the coming week.
Our troops have now found certain points related to the destruction of this equipment and in the near future, this week, the situation there will be stabilized,” said the Colonel of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
In addition, the military expert does not rule out a change in the balance of power, since the Ukrainian army can now also use armored vehicles in areas where there is a priority in offensive operations. This concerns the area of Svatovoe-Kremennaya, where the Armed Forces of Ukraine will be able to “cut off” the supply of ammunition for the occupiers to the area of Bakhmut and Soledar.
“Movement in these areas will “cut off” the supply of ammunition to the area of Soledar and Bakhmut. That is, there will be such an asymmetric strike, and I think that this will help us,” said Roman Svitan.
What is the current situation in Soledar
- On January 9, Russian troops began to storm Soledar. This is probably an attempt to get closer to Bakhmut and open a further path to the occupation of the Donetsk region.
- British intelligence reported that the Russians were probably in control of most of Soledar.
- The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine noted that they repelled attacks on Bakhmut and Soledar, but the fighting continues further.
