What to do if a man received a summons, but is abroad

Representatives of the military registration and enlistment office must personally hand over the summons to the person liable for military service. Therefore, if a man is abroad, no one can get this document instead of him.

Lawyer Nadezhda Grishchenko said that after reading the summons, the person liable for military service must sign, which confirms that he received the document. Accordingly, if a man is abroad, he physically cannot receive a summons.

Note! Abroad, diplomatic institutions do not hand over subpoenas to citizens of Ukraine.

If the summons was given to one of the relatives of the person liable for military service, they must explain to the representatives of the military registration and enlistment office that the man is abroad and cannot return. Thus, it is not possible to pass the summons through family members or friends.

New agenda approved in Ukraine

At the end of 2022, new military accounting rules were approved in Ukraine. So, in Ukraine, only the last sample of the summons to the military registration and enlistment office is valid. It is somewhat similar to the previous one, but there is a difference between them.

Therefore, if you are handed a summons, you should carefully read it and make sure that this is exactly the sample that was approved by the new resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers of December 30, 2022.

If you are handed a subpoena of the old bundle, then you can refuse it and demand that you provide it with a valid sample.
