Trump ordered the withdrawal of almost all American troops from Somalia

US President Donald Trump has decided to withdraw almost all of the American military contingent from Somalia. This was reported on the official website of the Pentagon.

“The US President ordered the US Department of Defense and African Command to redeploy most of the troops from Somalia in early 2021 to other countries,” the report said.

At the same time, the Pentagon notes that this measure does not mean weakening the American presence in Africa. Only a part of the military will leave the east of the continent, the rest of the troops will be deployed in neighboring countries with Somalia. They will be prepared to conduct operations in the country to maintain “pressure on violent extremist organizations operating in Somalia.”

In early November, there were reports in the media that US President Donald Trump was going to withdraw troops from Afghanistan before leaving office. It is believed that for this purpose he dismissed the head of the Pentagon, Mark Esper, who opposed such a decision.
