Two earthquakes recorded in Altai

Moscow. September 22nd. INTERFAX.RU – An earthquake of magnitude 3 was recorded 305 km southeast of Gorno-Altaysk, reports the Altai-Sayan branch of the Unified Geophysical Service of the Russian Academy of Sciences.

According to operational processing data, the epicenter of the earthquake that occurred at 22:58 Moscow time on Tuesday (02:58 local time on Wednesday) was 28 km east-northeast of the village of Kosh-Agach and about 45 km from the border with Mongolia. The intensity of shaking at the epicenter was 3.4 points on the MSK-64 scale.

In addition, an earthquake with a magnitude of 3.3 was recorded in the same area at 17:36 Moscow time on Tuesday (21:36 local time), the intensity of shaking at the epicenter was 3.8 points on the MSK-64 scale. The earthquake was registered within the seismic focus, which persists in the region for more than 15 years and is associated, according to representatives of the Altai-Sayan branch of the Unified Geophysical Service of the Russian Academy of Sciences, with mountain building processes that have been going on for the last 5-10 million years.
