Ukraine is negotiating with the West to obtain tactical aviation, – Reznikov

Currently, negotiations are underway with partners of our state to find a platform for providing tactical aviation to Ukraine. They are also discussing possible deliveries of long-range missiles.

This was stated by Minister of Defense of Ukraine Oleksiy Reznikov during a joint press conference with Deputy Prime Minister – Minister of National Defense of Poland Mariusz Blashak in Kyiv.

Negotiations on providing fighter jets

Reznikov said that negotiations are underway to find a platform for providing tactical aviation to Ukraine.

What will it be – F-16, Gripen – it is a matter of discussions with partners from NATO countries,” the minister said.

According to him, given the likely Russian offensive, Ukraine is also negotiating with partners to obtain long-range weapons with a range of 150 kilometers. Since such weapons, using the example of the HIMARS MLRS, have proven their effectiveness on the battlefield.

“They are afraid of HIMARS, so all their important warehouses with fuel, ammunition, command posts were moved 120 kilometers from the front line. Therefore, we we are discussing weapons with a range of 150 kilometers with partners,” Reznikov explained.

He summed up that, having received long-range missiles, Ukrainians will be able to:

  • destroy enemy concentrations,
  • prevent the invaders from going on the offensive with a cakewalk.

Briefly about F-16 fighters for Ukraine.

  • Yury Ignat, Speaker of the Air Force Command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, said that Ukraine would like to receive approximately 200 aircraft from the West. According to him, in terms of the prospects and the amount of aviation that the country already has, this is not such a big figure.
  • However, US President Joseph Biden, when asked whether the US would transfer fighters to Ukraine, answered: “No”.
  • Subsequently, CNN stated that the United States was allegedly not against sending F-16s to Ukraine and giving the green light to the allies.
  • In addition, before the statement by British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak that he does not exclude the supply of fighters to Ukraine, his representative said that sending aircraft may not be feasible after a long time of preparation.
