Today, January 22, the Ukrainian people celebrate a very important holiday of our state – the Day of the Unification of Ukraine. On this day, Ukrainians traditionally create a “human chain” to show the indivisibility of the country.
For almost a year now, Ukraine, together with the entire civilized world, has demonstrated amazing consolidation and unity in resisting the aggressor. Channel 24 collected warm congratulations with sincere wishes from Ukrainian defenders, officials and state institutions of the country.
The history of this day: what is known about the Day of Unification of Ukraine
On January 22, 1918, adopted the IV Universal of the UCR, which proclaimed the complete independence of the Ukrainian People's Republic. Alreadyin 1919, on the same day, the Act of Unification of the ZUNR and the UNR was signed.
The event became a landmark in the history of Ukraine's struggle for independence. Although the state was not destined to maintain its sovereignty at that time, this historical moment gave Ukrainians the belief that they could create an independent state.
Now parts of united Ukraine separated from each other for centuries are merging together – the Western Ukrainian People's Republic (Galicia, Bukovina and Hungarian Ukraine) and the Dnieper Great Ukraine. The primordial dreams that the best sons of Ukraine lived and died for have come true. Now there is a single independent Ukrainian People's Republic, the Act of Unification said.
By the way, an interesting fact is that the representatives of the ZUNR and the UNR signed the “Preliminary Treaty” to the Act of Connection on December 1, 1918 in a 6-seater train car at the railway station in Fastov. This interesting fact was told in Ukrzaliznytsia and added that today, as more than a century ago, world politicians come to Ukraine by train, and cars and stations still serve as places for international meetings and making important decisions for victory.
In 1990On the occasion of the 71st anniversary of the proclamation of the Act of Unification, Ukrainians carried out the first large-scale anti-Soviet action – they formed a “human chain” from Lvov to Kyiv. This was the symbolic end of the USSR and only the beginning of the unity of Ukrainians.
