The UN has calculated the number of deaths from hunger in 2020. This was stated by the Executive Director of the UN World Food Program (WFP) David Beasley, quoted by Reuters.
The organization said at least seven million people have starved to death this year. According to Beasley, to fight the UN problem, it will need to raise $ 6.8 billion in the next six months.
In July, it was reported that restrictions imposed by the COVID-19 pandemic in some countries cut off villages from food and medical care, due to the outbreak of massive hunger in the world, 10 thousand children die every month. For example, in Burkina Faso, one in five children is chronically malnourished. Food prices in the country have skyrocketed, and 12 million out of 20 people lack food.
Back in late April, David Beasley argued that the world was threatened by a famine of biblical proportions. According to him, humanity may face a serious food shortage in a few months due to the coronavirus pandemic. To avoid such a development of the situation, Beasley called for measures to ensure the food security of the countries.
