UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres has warned of a return to nuclear confrontation. He stated this at an event in honor of the 75th anniversary of the first meeting of the UN General Assembly, RIA Novosti reports.
According to him, geopolitical tensions are growing. “The threat of nuclear proliferation and confrontation is back,” the UN Secretary General explained.
Earlier, Guterres compared this year with 1945, noting that today “there is a war on the coronavirus.” “Today's war is being waged against a microscopic virus. Tomorrow may start against terrorists in cyberspace, ”Guterres said. In this regard, he called for maintaining international cooperation and broadening the understanding of what this concept means.
During the same speech, the UN Secretary General accused the rich countries of “vaccine nationalism.” According to him, in the struggle for the purchase of vaccines, such states ignored the needs of less developed countries.
