US Deputy Secretary of State Victoria Nuland said the US is working with Germany and the European Union to slow down the commissioning of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline, which is designed to export Russian gas to Europe, RIA Novosti reported.

Nuland admitted that the US is working with Germany and the EU to slow down the launch of the Russian gas pipeline. Washington wants the Germans to slow down the implementation of the project. The German government has “taken significant steps” to delay the launch of the project, she said.

The US Undersecretary of State noted that Germany has confirmed its readiness to block Nord Stream 2 in the event of Russia's aggression against Ukraine.

Earlier it was reported that Nuland decided to dissuade US senators from sanctions against Nord Stream 2. Her intention was supported by Amos Hochstein, senior adviser on global energy security at the State Department. It is assumed that the bill on the introduction of measures against the pipeline will be considered in the upper house of the US Congress this week.
