US allocates more than $ 3 million to study coronaviruses in China

The United States has committed over $ 3 million to research the risks of coronavirus infection in bats and their transmission to humans.

According to the Intercept, among the scientific organizations that received the grant was the Chinese Institute of Virology in Wuhan.

The publication reports that it requested documentation on US funding for virological research in China and received 900 pages of materials, which indicate that the grant for the institute in Wuhan was provided by the National Institutes of Health between 2014 and 2019.

“The project aims to help find out what factors allow animal coronaviruses to develop and enter the human population by studying the diversity of viruses in a critical group of animals (bats),” the document says.

We will remind, on the eve of the expert of the World Health Organization (WHO) Maria van Kerkhove said that the world has reached a plateau in the incidence of coronavirus infection, while noting that in different regions today the situation is different.
