The US Senate has approved a defense budget, which contains new sanctions against the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline, TASS reports.
The $ 740 billion bill envisages, among other things, expanding restrictions on the Russian Nord Stream 2 and Turkish Stream pipelines, and in relation to Ankara for the purchase of the Russian S-400 anti-aircraft missile system (SAM).
Senators also approved further arms supplies to Ukraine and voted to ban cooperation between the US and Russian military.
Earlier, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said that US attempts to stop the construction of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline are part of a general containment policy directed against Russia. The diplomat pointed out that aspects of this policy include sanctions, stop-lists, restrictions against companies and business representatives. She added that plans for completing the pipeline will not change.
On December 9 it became known that the House of Representatives of the US Congress approved tougher sanctions against the Russian gas pipelines Nord Stream 2 and Turkish Stream. The corresponding measures are contained in the draft military budget of the country for 2021.
Construction of Nord Stream 2 came to a halt last December after the US threatened to sanction the pipelayer owners.
