US faces radically higher maintenance costs for fifth-generation fighters
The US Audit Office report pointed to a “tipping point” for fifth-generation fighters. This means that someday the cost of these aircraft will peak.
According to “Lenta.ru”, the “turning point” for the fifth generation fighters will come in 2036. It was then that the operations of the Air Force (Air Force), the Marine Corps (ILC) and the US Navy (Navy) with the F-35 Lightning II aircraft will reach their peak values. This could become a problem if the operating costs of the fighters remain at current levels. It is reported that the gap between the planned and actual cost of maintaining the F-35 Lightning II could reach six billion dollars.
To avoid a disaster, the US Air Force should reduce the cost of operating aircraft by 47% by 2036, the ILC by 26%, and the Navy by 14%.
