US military helicopter crashes on Sinai Peninsula

A helicopter of a peacekeeping contingent of the Multinational Force and Observers (MFO) crashed in the Sinai Peninsula, Sputnik reports citing local media.

The cause of the incident is called a technical failure. According to information from the scene, as a result of a helicopter crash
UH-60 Black Hawk during a planned reconnaissance mission in the southern part of the peninsula killed seven people: five Americans, one French citizen and one Czech citizen.

The five wounded were taken to Soroka Medical Center in the Israeli city of Beer Sheva. This was reported by Israeli sources. The Egyptian authorities have not yet made official statements.

An international contingent of MFO monitors compliance with the 1979 peace treaty between Israel and Egypt. In addition to several hundred American citizens (both military and civilian specialists), it includes representatives of 13 states – mostly members of the European Union and the Commonwealth.
