Vaccines developed against the new Omicron strain may be approved within 3-4 months. At the same time, the effectiveness of today's drugs has not yet been tested.

This was stated by the executive director of the European Medicines Agency (EMA) Emer Cook, writes CNN.

According to him, first of all, it is necessary to conduct two-week laboratory tests in order to understand how effective the current vaccines are against the new strain. We should also consider how the situation around Omicron will develop in Europe.

Cook noted that if the need to change the existing vaccines arises, companies will have to adapt their drugs to a new strain.

“If it becomes necessary to change existing vaccines, we can get approval for these vaccines within three to four months,” he concluded.

Omicron” is already in Europe , the Ministry of Health also predicts that it will reach Ukraine in a few weeks.
