VAKS found

The Supreme Anti-Corruption Court found the Ukrainian People's Deputy not guilty of declaring false information. Yuri Kamelchuk did not write down the apartment and the loan.

The Anti-Corruption Action Center said that the decision was made by judges Vera Mikhailenko, Sergei Moisak and Timur Khamzin. They also explained its reason.

The court acquitted Kamelchuk

The people's deputy was acquitted due to the lack of evidence in his actions of the elements of a criminal offense, the Supreme Anti-Corruption Court said.

They also explained that a panel of judges of the Supreme Anti-Corruption Court passed a verdict, which found the people's deputy not guilty of a criminal offense on the fact of deliberately entering false information into the declaration.

The VAKS also recalled that the verdict can be appealed on appeal within 30 days from the date of its announcement. To do this, you must file an appeal with the Appeals Chamber of the VAKS.

SAP will challenge the verdict

The Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office said they would challenge the court's verdict. To do this, the SAPO prosecutor is already preparing an appeal against the verdict of the Supreme Anti-Corruption Court of March 16, 2023, by which the MP was acquitted of committing a criminal offense regarding deliberate false declaration.

The SAPO prosecutor does not agree with this court decision and will defend his position in the court of appeal, the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office said.

They recalled that the case of the people's deputy from the “Servant of the People” Yuriy Kamelchuk was investigated on the basis of the materials of the National Agency for the Prevention of Corruption (NAPC) by detectives of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) under the procedural leadership of the SAPO prosecutors.

The Kamelchuk case: briefly

  • On December 27, 2022, the prosecutor's office reported suspicion to the current people's deputy Yuri Kamelchuk. This happened because the people's deputy from Servant of the People did not indicate in the declaration for 2020 an apartment on Pechersk in the center of Kyiv worth more than 3.6 million hryvnias. She was on loan from October 2019 to October 2021.
  • Also, the people's deputy did not indicate the outstanding loan to the bank for a total amount of more than 48.8 thousand dollars.
  • The NABU explained that the loan must be included in the declaration, since it exceeded 50 living wages for able-bodied persons.
  • Already on January 10, 2023, the SAPO prosecutor sent an indictment to the court on charges of the People's Deputy of deliberately entering false information into the annual declaration for 2020.
