VSV wins against Bozen, Ljubljana is the new leader


Olimpija defeated Salzburg 1-0, KAC defeated Pustertal, Graz missed revenge against Znojmo and Linz lost in Bratislava.

The VSV had a lightning start against South Tyrol in the 8th round of the ICE Hockey League. Thanks to Chris Collins (1st) and Scott Kosmachuk (4th), the “Adler” made it 2-0 after just a few minutes. Anton Karlsson (30th), Yannic Pilloni (43rd) and Benjamin Lanzinger (53rd) later answered a guest hit three times. After a double in Bolzano in the finish, however, it went into overtime, in which John Hughes made the decision after four minutes. The Villachers remain in eleventh place but in the lower third of the table.

New leader

The Dornbirn Bulldogs won the former front runner Fehervar. With the 3-1 win on Sunday, Vorarlberg made it into the top six of the table. The new leader is Olimpija Ljbuljana, the Slovenians defeated Red Bull Salzburg 1-0. Graz lost to Znojmo 1: 2 at home, Bratislava celebrated a 3: 1 win against Linz. The VSV prevailed against HCB Südtirol with 6: 5 after extra time, the KAC in Pustertal.

The Bulldogs' lead by Jesse Saarinen in the 16th minute held half an hour of net playing time before Istvan Terbocs (46th) equalized in the power play. For a long time, Vorarlberg did not leave the 1: 1 interim result, as Saarinen, who had come from IFK Helsinki, took the new lead 1:20 minutes later. Two and a half minutes before the end the Latvian Nikita Jevpalovs (18./Powerplay) scored a third goal.

In the chase duel between Ljubljana and Salzburg, Gregor Koblar ended the stalemate with a power play goal in the 50th minute, lifting Olimpija to first place. For the “Bulls”, who were missing nine players due to positive corona tests, it was their first defeat after they had really got going and celebrated four victories. In fourth place, Salzburg are still the best Austrian ICE team.

Fifth is the KAC, who scored a 4: 1 success with the Pustertal Wölfen. Matt Fraser (16th) gave the Reds the lead in power play. Jakob Stukel (28th) equalized for the South Tyroleans, before Johannes Bischofberger (39th), Thomas Hundertpfund (42nd) and again Bischofberger (51st) established clear relationships with a shorthander.

Graz missed revenge against Orli Znojmo after suffering a 3-9 defeat in the Czech Republic on October 1st. It was 1: 1 in the Merkur ice rink after the first third, in which Ken Ograjensek had equalized for the 99ers in the 8th minute. The Grazers had to do without regular goalie Anthony Peters, who is suffering from an upper body injury. Felix Nussbacher was guarding the box instead of him and had to reach behind him for the second time in the 53rd minute.

The next defeat – after the first win on Friday – black Wings Linz caught up with an unlucky 3-1 in Bratislava. It was the seventh this season, while the Slovaks celebrated their fourth victory. After three away games, the Linzers are now returning to their own hall.
