The International Olympic Committee (IOC) wants to make a decision as soon as possible whether boxing and weightlifting will also be part of the Olympic program in Paris in 2024. “We are quite concerned because there are problems with the leadership in these two associations, so we are currently monitoring them very closely,” said IOC President Thomas Bach of the French sports newspaper L'Equipe.
It was only in September that the IOC renewed its criticism of the boxing association AIBA and expressed concerns in an open letter about the reforms that had been poorly implemented. Specifically, the IOC named the points leadership, finances and judges. The AIBA was suspended in May 2019 due to serious deficits in the three points and excluded from the Olympics and qualifying for Tokyo. An IOC task force stepped in.
The world weightlifting association IMF had recently been warned several times by the IOC top because of scandals over doping and corruption and the inadequate implementation of reforms.
